Charles' position in the universe is at the place where strategy, creativity, commodities, energy, writing, travel and agriculture intersect. Charles’ life experiences have allowed him to shape a global perspective routed in his identity. Charles’ career spans 15 years of working across the African continent – from Maseru to Cairo and everywhere in between. He has worked in the creative and communication industry with Ogilvy Africa, The Jupiter Drawing Room and Leo Burnett Africa. He was responsible for driving brand and business alignment at Standard Bank Africa across 16 African countries. He was honoured to be part of a team that turned a greenfield project into a new full-service bank in Angola. His passion for consulting was ignited at Interbrand Africa where he developed a keen understanding on the role of brand in building profitable businesses. He partnered with Interbrand Africa’s executive team to transform blue chip brands in Nigeria, South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Zambia, and Botswana.
His belief in building iconic African brands, rooted in their true identity, propelled him to co-found Valora. Charles’ world is full of curiosity and a state of mind that is always unlearning and building new theory to bring about change. Charles’ diverse experience comes to bear as he continues to help organisations to shape their tomorrow.
Charles is an active creative entrepreneur who has found a way to balance business and culture in his daily life. He is a published writer, film, art and music collaborator, vinyl collector and an investigative content creator. These skills come to bear in his work to solve clients’ business challenges.
Charles holds an MBA and Advanced leadership training from CEIBS (Shanghai, China). He is a member of the Institute of Business Advisors in Southern Africa (IBASA).
James has 15 years work experience, mostly spent in the research & advisory sector. James lives to tell a good story and leverages culture as a big inspiration to building compelling narratives from a business, branding & customer strategy standpoint. At Valora, James is responsible for moulding client relationships, managing the company’s growing portfolio, the organisation’s sustainability and strategic progression.
Prior to founding Valora and Birguid (business & research consultancy), James worked for Interbrand, Ernst & Young, Ipsos, Frost & Sullivan, the Forestry Company of Zimbabwe and Industrial Engineering Group. At these organisations James was largely responsible for formulating, implementing & evaluating strategy (business, marketing, customer & brand), amassing a wealth of experience and expertise during the process.
From an advisory standpoint James has & continues to work with companies such as Africawide, Cassava Fintech, FutureTech, Axxela, Braeburn Schools Group, Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone, Kugumi, PPC, AfriSam, Ansys Group, Botswana Chamber of Mines, Grundfos, Standard Chartered, Old Mutual, Standard Bank, Discovery, Industrial Development Corporation, Mamelani Projects, Shangoo, Soil Child, Enrich Zimbabwe.com, Audi, Ford, Toyota, Afrox, Air Liquide, Air Products & Telkom; to name a few.
James is also an avid writer, authoring two anthologies through Tracy Publishing thus far. James holds MBA, MPhil & Honours (cum Laude) degrees.
A creative with a passion for brands and strong background in identity design and brand strategy. Warrick has developed brand identities for numerous clients across the African continent. He co-founded and partnered in three creative studios, gaining experience across various forms of design, from brand identity and below-the-line to digital media and online environments.
Prior to founding Valora, Warrick held the positions of Creative Director at Interbrand Africa and Executive Creative Director at Grid Worldwide.
