Kudzai King BIO Kudzai King is a Johannesburg based photographer and a Valora collaborator. He has extensive experience in the fashion industry, fast building a reputation as an original and prolific artist, who is equally at home constructing precise elaborate images in a studio as he is discovering stories, personalities and colours of the city streets and neighbourhoods. His work reflects his diverse interests, often exploring the meeting points and contradictions between structure and spontaneity, dream and documentary, image and substance, ambition and injustice.
Kudzai was born in Harare in 1993 and lived in Cape Town for two years before moving to Johannesburg, where he now lives and works. After getting signed by Zimbabwe’s top modeling agency at the age of 16, he developed an interest in photography and was trained and mentored by one of the country’s most in-demand fashion photographer Michelle Fortmann. Kudzai spent several years honing his skills and building a reputation in the fashion industry, continuing to work both as a photographer and a model. He has worked on projects in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Mozambique for clients that include Revlon, Edgars, David Tlale, Maxivive, Econet, Shingai Shoniwa, Amara Brown, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week SA, SA Men’s Fashion Week, Deshauna Barber and others. His work has been featured in magazines such as Elle (South Africa), Divas Magazine (Zimbabwe) and Bella (Nigeria), Harare Magazine (Zimbabwe). He won the Zimbabwe Fashion International Award for Fashion Photographer of the Year in 2015, Zimbabwe Most Photogenic Model at Zimbabwe Models Awards in 2016 and was nominated as African Fashion Photographer of the Year in 2017 (ASFA Awards) in Uganda and has recently been nominated for Fashion photographer of the year Africa Diaspora at the Nigeria Fashion Icons Award 2018.
